The Prater is one of Europe’s great urban parks — once the private hunting ground of the Habsburgs, opened to the public in 1766 and never closed since. The Riesenrad has been turning since 1897. The Hauptallee has been walked by lovers, emperors, and everyone in between.
Twenty-five GPS stops spread across the park. You begin at Praterstern, where the city gives way to the chestnut boulevard, and move through the Prater at your own pace — past the ferris wheel, into the meadows, along the allee, as far as the forest goes.
Vienna is a city that takes conversation seriously. The Prater has been hosting it for centuries.

Praterstern
The walk begins at the great spoke junction where six streets converge. The Riesenrad is already visible from here, rising above the treeline. Vienna announces itself before you’ve even entered the park.
Riesenrad
The Giant Ferris Wheel, built in 1897, still turning. It survived two world wars and outlasted the empires that built the city around it. A question about what endures — and what you’d want to.
Hauptallee
The great chestnut-lined boulevard running four kilometres through the heart of the Prater. Cyclists, joggers, couples. One of Vienna’s most democratic spaces — it belongs to everyone equally.
Lusthaus
The imperial hunting lodge at the far end of the Hauptallee — a neoclassical pavilion where Habsburg emperors once rested. Now a café in the middle of a forest. A question about who you’d be in a different century.
Prater Meadows
The wide open grasslands that spread out from the Hauptallee. Viennese come here on weekends to do nothing in particular. The questions suit that energy exactly.
Krieau Trotting Track

Ernst-Happel-Stadion
