Balatonfüred has been a place people come to slow down for over two centuries. The Tagore Promenade — named after the Indian poet who walked it while recovering here in 1926 — runs along the northern shore of Lake Balaton, lined with linden trees and the gentle sound of water.
The walk begins at the Rétes Bolt and moves through Fenyves Park and past the Esterházy manor to the ferry harbour. Twenty-five GPS stops wait along the way — some at the water’s edge, some tucked into the pine shade.

Füredi Rétes Bolt
The walk begins here — a bakery that has been part of Balatonfüred’s daily rhythm for decades. The smell of fresh pastry and the lake already visible. A gentle start.
Tagore Promenade
The lakeside path named after Rabindranath Tagore, who planted a linden tree here in 1926 during his recovery in the town. Writers, kings, and ordinary couples have walked this strip ever since.
Fenyves Park
A pine grove between the promenade and the town. Cool even in summer, with the light filtering through the trees differently every hour. A question about what you return to.
Esterházy-kastély
The lakefront manor of one of Hungary’s great aristocratic families. The facade faces the water — grand but unhurried, like the town itself. A question about inheritance: what you carry forward and what you leave behind.
